Bio
Native New Yorker Solomon Gottfried began playing the Double Bass at age 12 after a childhood of going to clubs, listening to records, and admiring bassists such as Ron Carter, Paul Chambers and Scott LaFaro. An Alumni of the Interlochen Arts Academy, NPR’s “From the Top”, Vail Jazz Workshop, Manhattan School of Music Pre-College and the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music where he studied extensively with Andrew Cyrille, Buster Williams, Reggie Workman and Hal Galper. Solomon appears regularly as both a bandleader and side man in New York and internationally including performances with musicians such as Hal Galper, Dayna Stephens, Emmanuel Michael, Kalia Vandever, Jacob Sacks, Adam O’Farrill, Micah Thomas, Tim Watson, Marta Sánchez, Eric McPherson, Caleb Michel, Eliza Salem, Connor Parks, Neta Raanan, Yotam Silberstein, Alon Benjamini, Daniel Prim, Gabriel Chackarji and Joe Block. Solomon is the Co-Founder and artistic director/curator of “Close Up” the newest addition to the New York City jazz club pantheon.
